Hello my beautiful friends, here's all things about me

A girl dressed in a bikini and shorts sit on a wooden platform looking out at a tropical island and two bays.

I’m Jenelle, originally from a farm out in country Victoria, and now living in Melbourne, Australia.

I adore travelling in all of its forms and enjoy nothing more than filling my days and camera roll with nature, architecture and sunsets.

You’ll usually find me with a journal in one hand and iced coffee in the other, along with questionable tan lines from my camera strap.

Working not so 9 to 5

Whenever I’m sadly not travelling, I work as a radiographer. A.K.A. the person responsible for doing x-rays, scans and all things medical imaging in a big metro hospital.

I’ve been working as a radiographer ever since I finished university, coming closer to a whole decade now.

It’s a worthwhile and challenging career, combining medical expertise with high level technical skills.

While I haven’t always loved the shift work, jetlag is now minor compared to swapping from night back to dayshifts. All those shifts come with extra time off too, just what a girl obsessed with travel needs.

Happy snapping

I’m still learning about the deeper skills and techniques of great manual photography. Plus enjoying the challenge of moving away from automatic settings.

Currently, I shoot with an Olympus OM-D EM10 camera and love its portability even with multiple lenses.

I usually have a telephoto and portrait lens in my bag with me, hopefully I’ll be able to invest in a proper “all rounder” lens this year, to save me constantly needing to swap.

There’s something particularly awkward in trying to change camera lenses and look like a glamorous traveller!

I’ve thankfully come a long way from just putting it in auto mode and wondering why my pictures weren’t looking like I hoped they would.

Investing time into my photography learning has been a real gamechanger, though it has made looking back on my early shots a bit embarrassing.

Safe to say, there are some trips that I would like to redo with a bit more knowledge of the camera!

Where I've been and where I'm headed

I’ve travelled to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, England, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Turkey, the Philippines and Thailand.

Somehow though, my bucket list of dream countries only ever gets longer.

I travelled to Vietnam for the first time ever in May and it was simply fantastic to soak up a brand new country.

And drink as much Vietnamese iced coffee as I could handle without heart palpitations.

It was also be the first time that I travelled overseas for only a fortnight. I usually like to dedicate more time to exploring.

But the opportunity came up quite last minute and with limited holiday time, I decided to go for it. Honest travel tips for Vietnam coming in soon!

Coming up next

In 2023, I’m hoping to finally move over to London to start a long awaited dream of being a locum radiographer and travelling Europe on my weekends off.

I hope you’ll enjoy reading some of the tips, tricks and mishaps I’ve experienced on my travels so far. As well as some other tidbits about working overseas! Lovely to have you here!
